Race Writeup

Omnium- Ind Pursuit

Sarah Hammer (USA) continued her dominance of the Omnium, with a strong performance in the Pursuit. Hammer was the quickest from the 1000m mark and never relinquished her position. Hammer holds a 6 point advantage with two events left. In the battle for 2nd and 3rd, Poland's Katarzyna Pawlowska was 5th in the Pursuit but sits second overall on point ahead of Laura Trott (GBR), who was third fastest.  Canadian Gillian Carleton, posted the fastest time early on. Carleton is out of the medal chances due to her early exit in the Elimination race.

Keirin 1st round

In round 1, Becky James (GBR) continued her great form to secure her place in the next round. Despite a last minute effort form China's Jinjie Gong and Russian Ekaterina Gnidenko, the British rider could not be passed. the Russia was second on the line and will progress to the next round. 

In round 2, Kristina Vogel (GER) was too strong for her competitors. It was a matter of who could finish second. Australian, Kaarle McCulloch, got herself boxed in early and could not get round the Cuban Lisandra Guerra Rodrigues. McCulloch managed to get herself out of the box, only to be squeezed by the Cuba again. The Cuba was relegated for this move, allowing McCulloch to go through to the next round. 

In the last round, Wai Sze Lee (HKG) attacked with two to go. Shuang Guo (CHN) follow but in doing so she dropped her line down and caused Stephanie Morton (AUS) and Miriam Welte (GER) to crash.  Guo was disqialified having already received a warning in the Sprint competition. 

Repechages

In the first repechage round, Sandie Clair (FRA), Columbian, Juliana Gaviria and Australian Stephanie Morton progressed to the next round. 

In a tighter second repechage, Lisandra Guerra Rodrigues made sure she was in the clear. She attacked early to cross the line first. Jinjie Gong (CHN) went round the long way to finish second ahead of Olivia Montauban (FRA).

Omnium Scratch

Else Belmans (BEL) took a lap at the half way point of the race to go on to win the Scratch race. Despite a number of attacks to try to break up the race, it came together for a bunch sprint. Sarah Hammer (USA) took control with two laps to go. In the end she was swamped on the line by  Laurie Berthon (FRA) and Laura Trott (GRB). Hammer finished 4th. Annette Edmondson (AUS) was 5th and moved herself up to third overall.  Katarzyna Pawlowska (POL) dropped to 4th overall after a 9th place in the race.
