Day 3 Minsk Arena, Belarus
In the first round, Becky James (GBR) continued her great form to beat, Lisandra Guerra Rodriguez (CUB) to move the quarterfinals. Despite a huge effort from the Spanish rider, Calvo Barbero, Kristina Vogel (GER) was able to secure her place in the next round. Lee (HKG) had to fight hard to get round Australian McCulloch to move to the next round. Virginie Cueff (FRA) battled all the way round the final 100m to beat Gong (CHN). Cueff celebrated as she crossed the line. It was an important win for France. China's Shuang Guo had an easy ride to the quarterfinals. Olivia Montauban (FRA) did not trouble Guo. In the final race, Miriam Welte (GER) secured their second spot in the quarterfinals against Stephanie Morton (AUS). However on review she was relegated for not holding her line. The losers have the repechage round to try to secure their place in the quarterfinals. Jinjie Gong (CHN) had a easy ride against the Ukrainian Olena Tsos to progress to the next round. Shuang Guo (CHN) rode from behind against the Japanese rider Hiroko Ishii to move through. Australian Stephanie Morton, 23, who has transitioned from a supporting role as a pilot in the Paraolympics to the elite ranks moved to the 1/8th ease against the Japanese rider Kayono Maeda. Newly crowned Team Sprint champion Miriam Welte (GER) never looked troubled against Helena Casa Roige (ESP). Elena Brejniva (RUS) forced Olivia Montauban (FRA) to the front but could not match the French woman's speed in the last 50. Virgine Cueff (FRA) was challenged by the Russian Anastasiia Voinova but calmly passed her with 75m to go. The final hope for the Russians, Olga Stretslova was no match for the experienced Australian Kaarle McCulloch. Juliana Gaviria (COL) had a easy ride into the next round against Tania Calvo Barbero (ESP). After review, the Columbian was relegated for not holding her line in the final 50m. The Spanish rider moved to the next round. In the final round, former World 500m Time Trial champion, Cuban, Lisandra Guerra Rodrigues never looked troubled. Rebecca James (GBR) qualified fastest for the 1/16 finals and secured herself a free ride to the 1/8th finals. Kristina Vogel (GER), newly crowned World 500m Time Trial champion Wai Sze Lee (HKG) were also in this position due to the numbers entered for the event. James was the only rider to go under 11 seconds, completing the 200m flying lap in 10.957 seconds. Jinjie Gong (CHN) and Australian Kaarle McCulloch secured their spots in the quarterfinals after strong rides in the recpechage round. Gong and McCulloch both led from the front to hold the fastest line to the finish.
