Race Cancelled

Overnight snow and freezing temperatures in the Drenthe region forced cancellation of the race. The organisers and jury made the decision early on Sunday morning after consideration of the weather situation. The official decision was announced at about 08:30am. The race hotel became a 'crisis centre' for the organisers, providing a facility for teams to return race items such as race transponders and car radios.

In places, up to 8 centimetres of snow was lying and at 10:30am, 90 minutes before race start, the temperature was -1'C. Although main roads were clear, the state of the course could not be guaranteed and in fact, it would only have taken a slight deterioration of conditions for the roads to become worse. 

The organisers were disappointed, but emphasised that rider safety is their priority.
