Stage 1- Hoskings finds sprint legs early in season Museum of Islamic Art - Mesaieed, 97km
Chloe Hosking (Hitec) secured her first in of the 2013 season with a four up sprint win in the opening stage of the Tour of Qatar. Newly crowned Australian Road Race Champion Gracie Elvin (Orica-AIS) was second ahead of Lisa Brennauer (Specialized Lululemon). In the mush anticipated opening professional race of the 2013 season, the open flat landscape created the winning major break from which Hosking and Elvin escaped with 20km to go. The two were joined by Brennauer and Liesbet de Vocht (Rabobank Liv/Giant). The four leaders managed to work well together and opened up a small lead. Behind the leaders, Argos-Shimano, MCipollini Giordana and Tibco tried to form a chase but they were thwarted by the team mates of the leaders from Orica-AIS, Specialized Lululemon, Hitec and Rabobank Liv/Giant. In the end, the chase group finished 10 seconds behind the leaders. The first stage did not go well for some teams. In particular the newly formed Wiggle Honda.Star signing, former world road champion, Giorgia Bronzini missed the break and ended 2 minutes 7 seconds off the lead. Two time former winner of the event, Kirsten Wild did secure some early sprint points and finished in the chase group. 2011 winner Ellen van Dijk also finished in the chase group. Hosking holds a 6 second lead ahead of Elvin.
