Stage 5- Elisa Longo- Borghini wins solo Schmölln, 101.5km
Elisa Longo- Borghini (Hitec) up staged the more experience bunch to solo to the finish and in doing so she swept up the stage, young rider, mountain and most aggressive rider on stage 5. Adrie Visser (Skil Argos) and Jessie Daams (AA Drink) completed the podium. Beate Zanner (Maxx solar Biehler) is the best Amateur jersey. Judith Arndt (Orica AIS) retains its yellow The attacks came early on stage 5, with a group of 13 riders attacking before the first sprint point. The attack split the peloton in to two main groups. The leading group quickly gained momentum and had 30 seconds lead after only 10km of racing. In the leading group the only contender for GC was Olga Zabelinskaya (RusVelo). Leading the attack was Elisa Longo Borghini (Hitec), Amanda Spratt (Orica AIS), Sarah Dire (RaboWomen), Isabelle Soderberg (AA Drink), Marta Bastianelli (Mcipollini Giambenini), Janneke Kanis (Skil Argos), Anna-Bianca Schnitzmeier (AbusNutrixxion), Mascha Pijnenborg (Dolmans-Boels Cycling Team), Evelyn Arys(Cleo Ladies Club), Sari Saarelainen (Finland), Beate Zanner (Maxx-solar-Biehler). Malgorzta Jasinska (Mcipollini Giambenini) and Romy Kasper (RusVelo) bridged to join the leading group which gained a maximum 2 minutes 45 seconds after 34km of racing. Amanda Spratt (Orica AIS) dropped out of the leading group to go back to the main bunch to help her team work to protect the lead of team mate Judith Arndt. After 50Km, Orica AIS team and Specialized Lululemon put pressure on the chase and the gap started to reduce. The first time up the Sommeritz climb Longo-Borghini led the leaders over but the gap had started to come down to just under two minutes. The entire Orica-AIS team were on the front, driving the chase. With 68km of racing completed the leaders were holding a 1minute 45 second advantage. Rowena Fry (Orica-AIS) did a long turn on the front with her team and pulled off when the gap was down to 1 minute 5 seconds with 25km to go. The final time up the climb, Longo-Borghini crossed over the top first. Duester tried to attack but no one was letting her go away. With 10km to go Longo-Borghini attacked and quickly gained a gap on the leading bunch. Daams and Visser chased but could not catch her. With 3km to go Longo-Borghini was holding a 40 second lead on the two chase and over one minute on the rest of the peloton. Longo-Borghini crossed the line solo had of Visser and Daams. Judith Arndt (Orica-AIS) arrived safely in the bunch and hold a 5 second lead ahead compatriot Trixi Worrack (Specialised Lululemon) and 8 seconds ahead of Emma Johansson (Hitec) with the final stage in Zeulenroda tomorrow.
