Gastown
Grand Prix gets $1-million sponsorship from Global Relay Vancouver, Canada, 11 July 2012
Vancouver
technology services firm makes five-year commitment to Canada’s most
prestigious criterium After a three-year hiatus, the Gastown Grand Prix, Canada’s most prestigious criterium and part of the BC Superweek series, is back on July 11, 2012 thanks to a five-year commitment from Global Relay, a Gastown-based technology services firm that’s the world leader in cloud-based compliance archiving and messaging. Now
known as the Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix presented by Allstream, the
race, which boasts past winners such as Lance Armstrong, Gord Fraser and
Hilton Clarke on the men’s side and Ina Teutenberg, Gina Grain and Alison
Sydor on the women’s side, is expected to draw crowds of twenty to thirty
thousand to Vancouver’s most historic neighbourhood. The Global Relay
Gastown Grand Prix is proudly supported by Presenting Partner Allstream,
Canada’s all-business communications provider, as well as the Gastown
Business Improvement Society. “As
a worldwide company that’s been headquartered in Gastown since we were
founded in 1999, we’re delighted to show our support for bike racing,
Gastown and the City of Vancouver by bringing this great race back,”
said Warren Roy, CEO and founder of Global Relay. “We look forward
to seeing North America’s best men and women riders battle it out on our
cobblestone streets for the chance to join a winners list that reads like a
who’s who of North American cycling.” Started
in 1973, the 1.2-kilometer race with the signature hairpin corner has
consistently attracted North America’s top cycling teams including
7-Eleven, Coors Light, Saturn, Toyota-United, Jelly Belly, Symmetrics,
Navigators, Bissell and Health Net. With Gastown now joining the Tour de
Delta, UBC Grand Prix, Giro di Burnaby and Tour de White Rock as part of BC
Superweek, the nine-race series features six criteriums, two road races and
one hill climb over 10 days (July 6-15). “Having the Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix back is fantastic news for the cycling community and race fans in the Pacific Northwest,” said Mark Ernsting, Race Director. “We appreciate the generous support of Global Relay, Allstream and the Gastown Business Improvement Society and look forward to producing an unforgettable night of racing.
