Stage 7 - Vos wins again

Salice Terme (PV) - Castagnole delle Lanze (AT) 120 km

Race Writeup

Marianne Vos (Rabo Women) secured yet another win on stage 7. In the sprint for the line, Vos was ahead of Emma Johannson (Hitec) and Fabiana Luperini (faren).

The parcours were described as lumpy on stage 7. It was a day of constant up and downs with a tough uphill finish in Castagnole delle Lanze. After 42 km 12 riders managed to finally get a break. Included in the bunch were; Noemi Cantele and Elke Gebhardt (BePink), Amanda Spratt (Orica -AIS), Giada Borgato (Diadora Pasta Zara), Shelley Olds (AA Drink), Anna Van der Breggen (Nazionale Olandese), Ina Yoko Teutenberg (Specialized Lululemon), Marta Tagliaferro and Alessandra Borchi (Mcipollini Giambenini), Lise Nostvold (Hitec Products Mistral Home), Liesbet De Vocht (Rabo Women), Romy Kasper (Rus Velo).

After 55km the leaders had a 2 minute 30 second lead ahead of the chancing peloton. Nicole Cooke (Faren) tried to attack the main peloton but could not get away.

At 72km the gap had gone out to 3 minutes 38 seconds but it was starting to come down. With 20km to go the twelve leaders held a 2 minute 30 second lead. 

As the race reached the final climb all of the main GC contenders were together but 1 minute 50 seconds behind the leaders. The leaders were caught on the climb and over the top of the climb, Emma Pooley (AA Drink) led Marianne Vos (Rabo Women) the maglia rosa Marianne Vos and Evelyn Stevens (Specialized Lululemon). 

The maglia rosa took command with; Judith Arndt and Claudia Hausler (Orica-AIS), Alena Amialiusik and Elisa Longo Borghini (Hitec), Pooley, Stevens, Emma Johansson (Hitec), Tatiana Guderzo (MCipolini), Fabiana Luperini (Faren) and Leleivite
