Stage 6 - Independence Day victory for Olds

Modena - Salsomaggiore (PR) 124 km  

Race Writeup

Shelly Olds (AA Drink) won the slightly uphill finish on American Independence Day. The Maglia Rosa, Vos (Rabo Women) was second ahead of Giorgia Bronzini (Diadora)

An early attack after 20km from 13 riders stirred up the race. The leading group quickly gained memontum. The group included: Liesbet de Vocht and Lauren Kitchen (Rabo Women), Shelly Olds (AA Drink), Shara Gillow and Loes Gunnewijk (Orica-AIS), Lise Nøstvold  (Hitec Products), Hohl (Faren Honda), Marta Bastianelli and Susanna Zorzi (MCipollini), Inga Cilvinaite (Diadora), Simona Frapporti  (Be Pink), Valentina Scandolara (Michela Fanini) and Lisa Brennauer (Specialized Lululemon).

After 40km the leading group had 35 seconds advantage over the main group that included the Maglia Rosa, Marianne Vos. The teams of Vos, Emma Pooley (AA D rink) and Giorgia Bronzini (Diadora Pasta Zara) took control of the chase and within 10km the gap was down to 17 seconds. by the time the leaders reached 60km the chase was over and the peloton was all together.

With 25km to go the bunch were all together and preparing themselves for the bunch sprint. The pace was extremely high in the bunch right to the line.

The slight uphill sprint favoured the American Shelly Olds (AA Drink) won on American Independence Day. The Maglia Rosa, Vos (Rabo Women) was second ahead of Giorgia Bronzini (Diadora).
