Stage 1 - Vos wins stage 1 and moves into lead Garnich, 102.6km Marianne Vos (Rabo Women) secured the tough short climb to the finish in Garnich to win stage 1 and move herself into the overall lead. Adrie Visser (Skil-Argos) held on for second ahead of Vos's team mate Pauline Ferrand-Prevot. There were a number of teams active at the front of the race in the early stages. Linda Villumsen (GreenEDGE-AIS) tried to open up an early gap, but this was closed by Vos. Eventually the string did break and a lone leader, Natalie Lamborelle (Kleo Ladies) managed to get away. She rode solo for 15km before the first chase came. Ine Beyan (Topsport Vlaanderen) tried to bridge across to Lamborelle but could not make it to the lone leader. With 50km to go, Liesbet de Vocht (Rabo Women) was sent to the front of the bunch to bring it back together. Villumsen with team mates, Rowena Fry and Amanda Spratt (GreenEDGE-AIS) were all active at the front to ensure they monitored any potential breaks. Other teams were also active, USA, Hitec, Canada, Abus Nutirxxion and AA Drink. With 45km to go, the leaders were caught. Immediately, Cromwell (GreenEDGE-AIS) launched an attack but this was covered by Vos again. Australian Rachel Neylan (Abus Nutrixxion) moved to the front and increased the pace. The bunch began to string out and splits stated to form. Amber Neben (Specialised Lululemon) and Noemi Cantele (BePink) moved to the front as the incline increased a litle. Ashleigh Moolman (Lotto Belisol) moved to the front with Pauline Ferrand-Prevot and Vos to drive the pace. With 30km to go the damage was done and a lead group formed. The leading twenty one riders included, Vos, Annemiek Van Vleuten and Ferrand-Prevot (Rabo Women), Visser, (SKIL-Argos), Megan Guarnier (USA), Villumsen, Cromwell, Shara Gillow and Judith Arndt (GreenEDGE-AIS), Emma Johansson, Elisa Longo Borghini and Christel Ferrier-Bruneau (Hitec-Mistral) Cantele (Be Pink), Moolman, Ludivine Henrion and Joanna Van De Winkel (Lotto Belisol), Neben (Specialized-Lululemon), Neylan (Abus Nutrixxion) Anna Vanderbreggen (Sengers Ladies CT) Joelle Numainville (Canada) and Jessie Daams (AA Drink). With 5km to go the pace in the lead group was high. Neben was leading up the climbs as the course wound its way to Ganich and the uphill finish. Vos attacked at 130m to go and looked strong to the line while the rest battled behind for the minor places.
