Drenste 8 van Dwingeloo - Hosking sprints to victory Dwingeloo, 141.2km
Chloe Hosking (Specialised Lululemon) won her first major European victory in a tough sprint ahead of 2011 World Champion Giorgia Bronzini (Diadora Pasta Zara) and Marianne Vos (Stichtin Rabo Women). Moved forward one month from previous years, conditions were cold and damp at times for the peloton as they circum-navigated the loops around Dwingeloo. The tempo was high right from the start which caused some riders at the back to have difficulty round the narrow Dutch roads. After 50km the main bunch had split into two groups. The leading group of 65 riders generated a 35 second gap on the remaining bunch of 100 riders. After 62.2km , the elastic had started to stretch and the new Russian team Rusvelos Romy Kasper managed to break free. She was joined by Valentina Carretta (MCipollini Giabenini) and Carmen Small (USA). They gained a maximum of 1 minute 40 seconds. Vos took control to close it the gap and after 83.5 km the bunch were back together again. Through the cobbles for a 5th time, Nathalie Lamborelle (Kleo Ladies) attacked alone. She quickly gained a 20 second advantage. She did not stay away for long. Specialised Lululemon, Greenedge AIS, Rabo Women and USA closed the gap. Immediately the elastic snapped and the main bunch split into three. After 107km the peloton was in pieces. Sarah Duester (Rabo Women) tried to break the lead group up but Trixi Worrack (Specialised Lululemon) closed the gap. With 30km to go five riders managed to break free, Vos, Emilia Fahlin (Specialised Lululemon), Judith Arndt (Greenedge AIS), Emma Johansson (Hitec), Small (USA) and Tatiana Guderzo (MCipollini Giabenini). It did not last long. With 20km to go the leading peloton were all together. At 5km the tempo was exceptionally high as the teams organised themselves for the sprint. At 300m Worrack was leading out Hosking. Bronzini was on her wheel with Vos. Hosking kicked with 100m to go and crossed the line clear of Bronzini who had to fight her way round Worrack and Vos.
