Media Conference

The pre-race media conference was an opportunity for some of the faces behind the event to be introduced. A member of the Qatari royal family, Sheikh Khalid Bin Ali Bin Abdullah Al Thani, who is also President of the Qatar Cycling Federation made the opening remarks and welcomed all participants. The man who was central to helping to establish the men's and women's races in Qatar, Eddy Merckx, acknowledged the growth in interest in sport and in cycling specifcally in Qatar. 

The major sponsors for the event, the Mitsubishi Qatar Automobile company and ExxonMobil were also introduced. A ceremonial signing of the sponsorship documents for 2012 took place. 

The proceedings were in Arabic, with some French and a little English, hence the limited nature of this report
