Sprint Finals - Meares on top Final Anna Meares (Aus) and Vicki Pendleton (GBR) showed that they are the best two sprinters in the world. It was Meares however that had home advantage and held off Pendleton for Gold. Kristina Vogel (GER) was awarded the Bronze medal. Shuang Guo was unfortunately unable to continue due to suspected broken collar bone. Semi-Finals In the first heat of the two semi-finals, Kristina Vogel (GER) attacked Anna Meares (AUS) early forcing Meares to chase from 15m back. Meares came back strong and caught Vogel on the line. In the second race Meares led from the front and easily held on to go through to the final against Vicki Pendleton. In the second race, Shuang Guo (CHN) forced Vicki Pendleton (GBR) to the front. Coming into the bell, Guo tried to go under Pendleton, then had to correct to move round her when she realised the gap was closed. Guo lost control of the front wheel and hit the deck hard. Guo was unable to continue. In the chase for important UCI points in the minor placings, Sandie Clair (FRA) proved the strongest.
