With the last chance to gain some valuable kilometres before the World Championships in Copenhagen.

The women's peloton moved south from the Holland Ladies Tour, Tour Cycliste Féminin International de l'Ardèche and for those focused on the individual time trial, from the Chrono Championship - Trophee European.

HTC Highroad will want to defend their 2010 title. The full team is yet to be named but Judith Arndt is sure to lead a strong squad. Garmin Cervélo, MCipollini Giambenini and Diadora Pasta Zara are sure to feature high in the overall classification.

The week starts with a short 5.45km Team Time Trial that heads along the coast of Viareggio. If strong winds come off the sea, this will impact the teams who are not able to keep formation. The out and back course will provide valuable seconds advantage to the winning team.

Stage 2 Porcari - Orentano - Altopascio starts off for the first 54km with rolling hills. This will be a course for the sprinters to test their legs.

Stage 3 Pontedera - Volterra is one for the climbers. Finishing at the top of a 8km climb in Volterra, it is anticipated that the bunch with split heavily on this stage.

Stage 4a, Quarrata - Campi Bisenzio, is the first of two stages in one day.  the first stage is pan flat and provides another opportunity for the sprinters left in the hunt for a win.  With a few hours to recover the peloton splits to start the 2,22 km Stage 4b - Campi Bisenzio Individual Time Trial.

Stage 5 - Segromigno in piano - Capannori  is a tough 100,90 Km climbing stage. With five climbs the highest of which is the final climb to Valgiano before a fast descent into Capannori.

The final stage 6, starts in Lucca and finishes in the city of Firenze. With four climbs the race will inevitably split around the highest climb Sierravalle at 56.5km. This may come back together on the run to the final climb. 44km separate the climbs. The top of the final climb is 6km downhill to the finish. Those riders who are left at the front and can climb well and go fast downhill will be in contention for the win on the final stage.
