Stage 8 - Pooley wins, Vos retains GC lead

Teglio - Valdidentro 80 km

 

Race Writeup

Emma Pooley (Garmin Cervelo)led race leader, Marianne Vos (Nederland Bloeit) throurhout most of the the tough 8th stage into Valdidentro. Vos let Pooley set the pace and sat in her shadow for much of their break together. The pair caught and passed everyone else in the race. 

The final 1.6km were on gravel rooad. Rain began falling just before the riders finished, so they were covered in grey slduge by the time they crossed the line. 

Race leader, Vos, followed Pooley over the finish. The Briton had time for a small victory salute before grabbing the 'bars again, the mud was very slippery too.

Vos maintained her lead in the overall GC competition. Australian Ruth Corset (Bizkaia-Durango) who has been improving all week as the terrain got steeper finished third after being in a break at the beginning of the day with Amanda Miller (HTC-HighRoad). Judith Arndt (HTC-HighRoad) took fourth and moved into fourth place on GC, moving ahead of Tatiana Guderzo (Cipolini)
