Stage 1 - Vos wins stage 1 Roma - Velletri 86 km Marianne Vos (Nederland Bloeit) continued her run of form to win the opening stage if the 2011 Giro Donne. Fresh from her win at the German nationals, Ina-Yoko Teutenberg (HTC Highroad) took second ahead the the Swedish road champions Emma Johansson (Hitec). When the race entered the finishing cricuts in Velletri. HTC Highroad's Emilia Fahlin and Ellen van Dijk attacked. Poland’s Malgorzata Jaskinska (S.C. Michela Fanini-Rox) bridged across to the two leaders. The trio 50 seconds quickly. However with 18km to go the chase from behind came from Nederland Bloeit, Diadora Pasta Zara and Colavita D'Alsolo. With 10km to go, the sprinters were getting into position and Vos attacked on the climb across the cobbles to the finish chased by Teutenberg and Johansson.

Vos (Nederland Bloeit) arrived at the Giro in great form and
wearing the her new National jersey, “The
finish of the stage suited me and my form is great. My Giro couldn’t
have started better and now I hope to keep the race leader’s jersey for
as long as possible,” said Vos Valentina Scandolara (Gauss) holds the Mountain leader jersey after she was the first over the small cat 3 climb. "I am happy to get to the top of the Castel Gandolfo first. From tomorrow things will change. My role here is to support my team. Day by day we will see how I am.
