Race Writeup

Marianne Vos (Nederland Bloeit) won the final stage of the 2011 Raboster Zeeuwsche Eilanden event ahead of Kirsten Wild (AA Drink) and Vera Koedooder (Specialised).

Vos secured the overall.

The race was active right from the start. An initial attack from Vos split the peloton into three bunches on the road.  A leading group of  26 formed that included, most of Nederland Bloeit, (AA Drink) and Iris Slappendel (Garmin), Liesbeth de Vocht (Bel). Melissa Hosking (AUS), Specialised, Skil Koga and a number of riders from smaller teams.

The windy conditions made it difficult for the chase groups to get in touch with the leaders and the gap increased.

With 53km of racing to go, three riders managed to attack the leading group, Sarah Duester (Nederland Bloeit), de Vocht (Bel) and Irene van den Broek (AA Drink). Marijn de Vries (AA Drink) managed to bridge across to the leaders. In the chase behind, AA Drink took control of the pace to control any further attacks.

Duester was the greatest threat to the overall and Wild decided that AA Drink had to close the gap to protect her position in the overall standings. The leading group closed the gap with 30km to go. 

With 10km to go, Vos attacked the group. Wild went with her and the pair managed to gain a 55 second lead.

The pair worked well together and increased their lead to 2 minute 55 seconds. Vos tied to attack Wild but they arrived to the final 5km together. In the final 3km they played cat and mouse. It was Vos who had the strength in the end. She attacked Wild with 300m to go and crossed the line 11 seconds ahead of Wild. In the bunch chase, Koedooder ;led the group home 2 minute 16 seconds behind.
