Stage 1 -Teutenberg sprints to victory

Mattarello - Arco 85km

Race Writeup

HTC-Highroad riders, Ina-Yoko Teutenberg and Adrie Visser took first and second today after a powerful display of bunch sprinting in the Giro di Trentino. Martine Bras (Netherlands) was third.

The opening stage sent riders from Dimaro to Arco in a rolling course with one major climb of 8km. The bunch split on the climb with the front group of 90 riders together over top. Despite a number of attempts to get away, HTC Highroad controlled the run into the finish and safely brought Teutenberg to the line.

Ina-Yoko Teutenberg (HTC Highroad) sprinted to victory ahead of teammate Adrie Visser,  "I was in third place with 250 meters to go and then went for the sprint from there," Teutenberg added, "it was a very fast finish with four or five corners late on, but it worked out fine."

A winner of a stage of Trentino last year, Teutenberg said she was also pleased to have stayed with the front group on the early climb, because "It's not really my area. That was good."

As well as leading in the points and overall classification, Teutenberg latest win is her ninth of the season and the thirtieth of 2011 for HTC-Highroad women's team.

Jens Zemke (HTC Sports Director) couldnot have been happier with the teams performance, "There was a big climb at the start of the stage, eight kilometers long, and Ina came over the top of it with the first group," Zemke said.

"Then after a long descent towards Arco, all five of our riders were there for the bunch sprint, which was perfect."

"We'd had a good look at the maps because it was a very technical finish with cobblestones and a lot of corners in the last kilometer, and all the team made sure they were in exactly the right position."

"Then Adrie was strong enough to take second as well, so it was a very good performance by the whole squad."
