Race Writeup

Rochelle Gilmore (Lotto Honda) opened the 2011 UCI season in the same manner as she started the Australian New Year, with a win. The Commonwealth Games Champion took the bunch sprint ahead of World Champion and 2010 Qatar runner-up, Giorgia Bronzini (Italy). Chloe Hosking (HTC-High Road) was third, as a result, the young Australian took the U23 jersey.

Gilmore now takes the gold leader's jersey to Stage 2. She also holds the silver, sprint competition, jersey as a result of her top three positions in the two intermediate sprints sprints during the stage.
