Round 4 - Pooley climbs to Victory, Vos stays comfortably in World Cup lead La Fleche Wallone, Belgium, 98km Emma Pooley (Cervelo Test Team) added an important victory to her resume, with a win up the gruelling Mur de Huy. Nicole Cooke (GBR) a former winner was second 8 seconds behind Pooley and Emma Johansson (Red Sun Cycling) was on her wheel. Cook overtook Johansson in the closing few metres to the line. Pooley took
off on the steepest section of the Mur de Huy on the second and definitive
ascent of the notoriously tough final climb, a little earlier than
instructed but which ensured she could celebrate the fourth World Cup win
of her career in style.
Emma Pooley (Cervelo Test Team) is one of the smallest riders in the
peloton and took advantage of that to dance her way up the 19% climb, she
also recognised that
her team had been responsible for her coming to the Mur, as rested as
possible and ready to strike.
"I have never got
to the end of a race having done so little work," she said later.
"I didn't have to do anything at all." Pooley said she had attacked a little earlier than instructed "because I was really impatient and a bit nervous I might fall off my bike in all the excitement!"
