Vera Koedooder attacks to win.

Aduard, Netherlands, 133.3km, (uci 1.2)

Write-up

Vera Koedooder (Netherlands) attacked alone to win the final stage of the KNWU top competition for 2010.

After one hour of racing the decisive move of the race was made. A lead group that included Chantal Blaak and  Monique van Rhee (Leontien NL), Suzanne de Goede and Liesbet de Vocht , Jannek Kanis (Nederland Bloeit), Vera Koedooder (Netherlands),Kirsten Wild and Iris Slappendel (Cervelo Test Team), Jessica Glasbergen and Anne Samplonius(Canada) formed at the head of the race.

This group quickly formed a one minute 5 second lead that gradually increased. Slappendel (Cervelo Test Team) attacked the group and managed to gain a 35 second lead. Koedooder tried to bridge to Slappendel but was blocked by team mate, Wild.

With 10km to go, Slappendel's lead was down to 10 seconds. By the time the leader reached 5km to go the bunch were on her wheel. 

Blaak tried to attack but could not manage to get away. Samplonius also tried but her move was covered by Wild. 

In the end, Koedooder counterattacked attacked with 4km to go. van Rhee and Blaak gave chase but could not catch the powerful Dutch woman. The lead was down to seven seconds with a kilometre to go and only 3 seconds at the finish. But Koedooder, finished it off in style with a long-awaited win which gave her to opportunity for a two-handed victory salute.
