Stage 7 -  Vos wins final sprint and overall in tight race.

Hellendoorn - Hellendoorn, 121,5km

 

Race Writeup

Marianne Vos (Nederland Bloiet) won the final stage and secured her place as the overall winner of the 2010 Holland Ladies Tour. Kirsten Wild (Cervelo Test Team) the overnight leader was second ahead of American Shelly Olds.

The competition for time bonuses was tight throughout the race. The bunch stayed together through the first of the sprint point at 54.5. Marianne Vos (Nederland Bloiet) took first place ahead of race leader Kirsten Wild (Cervelo Test Team) which placed Wild 2 seconds ahead on GC.

At the pave section at Hellendorn after 88.3km, a number of riders crashed, they all got back on their bikes but the crash caused a break in the bunch. The lead group gained a 30 second advantage but the chasers were working had to get back into the race. With 5k to go to the second bonification sprint and 20km to go to finish, the peloton were all together again.

At the second sprint, Vos won ahead of Wild again and Sarah Duester (Cervelo Test Team) was third. Wild was holding onto the overall by the slimiest of margins, 1 second. The last sprint in the finish line would decide the winner of the Tour. 

With 5km to go, Nederland Bloiet were on the front of the race driving the pace. They did a great job and delivered Vos to the line ahead of Wild and Shelly Olds (USA).

Vos snatched the overall victory form Wild.
