Stage 1 - Teutenberg wins bunch sprint Nuenen "van Gogh Village" - Gerwen, 112,2km
HTC-Columbia's
Ina-Yoko Teutenberg has powered to her 22nd victory of the 2010 season in
the Holland Ladies Tour, narrowly defeating Netherlands rider Marianne Vos
in a bunch sprint. Esra Tromp (Batavus) and Amy Pieters (Merida/Gauss) broke away and stayed away for 60km in this first stage of the 13th HLT. The pair worked well together and gained a maximum gap of two minutes over the bunch. With over 160 starters from twenty eight teams, the large peloton negotiated the narrow Nord Brabant roads with surprisingly few incidents or accidents. The race came together in the final 30 kilometres, on the first of three laps of a thirteen kilometre finishing circuit. A small crash involved Teutenberg's HTC-Columbia teammate Evelyn Stevens. She was unlucky enough to crash in the race, about 20 kilometres from the finish, injuring her elbow. As a precaution, the American rider was taken to a nearby hospital for an x-ray and exam, which concluded to be clear of fractures. The inevitable sprint finish was taken by Ina-Yoko Teutenberg (HTC-Columbia women) from Marianne Vos (Nederland Bloeit) and Kirsten Wild (Cervelo Test Team).
