Stage 3a- Vos wins by two bike lengths Iurreta - Zuia 78.7 km Marianne Vos (Netherland Bloiet) won her second stage in the Iurretta-emakumeen Bira in convincing style ahead of Emma Johansson (Redsun Cycling) and Eleonora Patuzzo (Safi - Pasta Zara).
Judith Arndt (HTC Columbia) finished fourth to maintain a 12 second advantage over claudia Hausler (Cervelo Test Team).
The conditions for the second race, the 78.7km route, from Iurreta to Zuia, were also very tricky on a tough course. Despite a number of attacks the race gradually split, more as a result of the conditions and natural attrition. As the race approached the start of 2nd Cat climb at Elgabide, a group of about fifty riders formed that included all the top riders.
This group splintered on the climb with a small group but pretty much stayed together until the final 1km. Vos was the clear winner in the sprint, she even had time to look over her shoulder to the chase.
"This
afternoon it was a normal stage with one category 2 climb. At the end there
was a group of about 50 riders with four of our team in this group. Then at
the end six riders escaped, thought they only had 10-15 seconds on the bunch
and this contained all the main riders including Claudia. She is still in
