Dietel, Hausler and Touffet join rider list
Patrick Banfi joins as Directeur Sportif Cervélo
Pro Cycling Test Team has signed three further riders for 2009. Sandra
Dietel, from Lauf (GER) is 25-years-old and will race her first pro-year for
the Cervelo Pro Cycling Test Team. The talented and ambitious rider rode for
the past two years for Team Stuttgart and loves mountainous courses. Her
biggest successes to date were 6th place in the 2008 (German) national
mountain championships, 5th overall rank in the 2008 German Bundesliga
competition series as well as the six victories in the season 2008
(including 2 Bavarian championships titles). Claudia Hausler, the second new rider from Germany, is 23-years-old and lives in Wolfratshausen near Munich. She is a talented German rider with an impressive 'palmeres'. For the seasons 2006 to 2008, Hausler was a rider in Équipe Nürnberger Versicherung. The strengths of this impressive athlete are stage races and competitions with longer climbs. In 2008, Hausler won a stage, took the third overall rank and claimed victory in the young riders category of the Giro Donne. In addition to these successes, she finished 11th in the UCI World Road Race Championships in Varese and took several victories and podium places in various competitions and stage races throughout the season. Elodie Touffet is French and moves from Team Gauss, where she rode in 2008. The 28-year-old athlete is an experienced rider in the elite women's peloton. To date, her greatest success was second place in the UCI World Cup race, Ronde van Drenthe, in 2007. She also took a stage victory on the first stage of the 2005 Trophee d'Or Feminin. "With Sandra Dietel, Claudia Hausler and Elodie Touffet we have found again three great athletes that fit s exactly to our young team and strength us on the so far vacant positions. With this decision we would like to stress out our goal to be the Number 1 in the women's cycling," said Thomas Campana. "The Cervelo Pro Cycling Test Team will start next year as a German professional team and will also take part at the Bundesligarennen. All preparations are done and we are ready for the new cycling season." Meanwhile,
the team has also announced the
signing of Patrick Banfi from Switzerland as an additional Sports Director.
"I’m
extremely happy to get this chance from Thomas Campana to work with such a
great team, have the possibility to develop my skills and are able to
continue my work together with Emma Pooley,” explained Patrick
Banfi. “I can see the great potential in the team and team concept.
To create something new together with the "young savages“ is very
interesting for me and makes a lot of fun for me.”
Banfi
will support the current Sport Director, Manel Lacambra, in the 2009
season. “I’m confident, that both, Patrick and Manel will fit
together well and complement each other optimally,” said Thomas
Campana. “We have a top team together and we are looking forward to
the upcoming season.“
