Preview Cycling Sports Promotion, the organisers of Trofeo Binda, launched the 2009 event last Saturday evening. The venue was Villa Frascole, Laveno Mombello (VA). The first round of the World Cup is presented as more than just a day of racing. Throughout the weekend, there will be activities and exhibitions in the town of Cittiglio. During the evening, the President of the organising group, Mario Minervino, introduced the course to those in attendance. The race will have competitors from 25 teams and will "be contested on the circuit which includes two climbs of Brinzio Orino, perhaps points of selection for the eventual winner on 29th March", said Minervino "historically, this is an event which is fiercely contested, even more so this year because it is the first round of the World Cup." As part of the celebration of women's cycling which Cycling Sports Promotion brings to Cittiglio, on Saturday7th March, there will be a round-table discussion between the director of Ciclismo magazine and stars of Italian women's cycling past and present. Local dignitaries and officials support the Trofeo Binda initiative and will be at the various build-up events and functions throughout March.
