Pursuit Qualifying

 

Race Writeup

Qualifying fastest was Wendy Houvenaghel (GBR) who completed the 3000m in a time of 3 minutes 34.156sec.  Houvenaghel was only a fraction faster than the 2008 World Champion Alison Shanks (NZL). The pair qualifying for the Gold medal ride with relative ease. 

Leysa Kalitovska (UKR) rode third fastest, some 4 seconds behind the time of Houvenaghel. The young Australian Josie Tomic was the fourth to qualify for the finals. 

The experienced pursuit rider in the group, the Spanish rider, Leire Olaberria Dorronsoro, was disqualified for slipsteaming during her ride. .

Josie Tomic (AUS) was very happy to have made the finals, "I had a good ride, so I am very happy," said Tomic.
