Shijndel -
Schijndel, Individual TT, 13,3km
Race
Writeup
Ellen van Dijk
(Team Columbia HTC) showed dominance in the individual TT ahead of team
mate Linda Villumsen and Marianne Vos (DSB Bank).
van Dijk never
really looked in trouble over the 13.3km stage and powered her way across
the line. Kirstin Wild (Cervelo Test Team) could only manage 4th fastest
but it was enough to hold onto the overall.
van Dijk also
holds the U23 classification ahead of Vos and Trine Schmidt (Team
Flexpoint).

Ellen van Dijk
(Team Columbia HTC) said of her win, "It was a hard stage to win,
after a first long straightaway, there were lots of corners
and I had to take a lot of risks. It was really scary!" Fortunately
even though it was windy, it wasn't raining like it did here on Tuesday and
I could give it 100 percent. Getting a win in your home country like
today is something very special, and I'm really pleased. Last week I
rode in the Dutch national time trials and got third, which was ok, but I'd
wanted to do better. So here I had a point to prove to myself and I
managed to get the win. And with Linda in second, it's been a great day for
Columbia-HTC."
Overall Van Dijk is now second, tied on time with leader Kirsten Wilde, and
she doesn't rule out fighting for the overall in the next few stages. "The
next four stages are all flat and exposed, which is just how I like them. As
a sprinter, I think I'll have a chance."
