Race Writeup

Kristen Wild (Cervelo Test Team) finished safely in the bunch to secure her first Tour du Montreal title. Wild celebrated at the same time Hanka Kupfernagel (German National Team) was celebrating for crossing the line in first place, realising that the title was hers.

Kupfernagel won the bunch sprint ahead of Martine Bras (Selle Italia ghezzi) and Denise Zuckermandel 9german National Team).

During the stage there were a number of attempts to break the bunch up. Lauren Kitchen (Australia) drove off the front put she was quickly closed down by Kim Anderson (Team Columbia Highroad). At the base of the climb Emma Pooley (Cervelo Test Team) stretched the legs of the peloton. she was closely watched by Eva Lutz (Equipe Nürnberger Versicherung). the leader in the Mountain competition Carla Swart (Equipe Mixte 2  MTN Energade-Liga Santander) was also evident at the front of the bunch, as was Mara Abbott (Team Columbia Highroad).

In the end however it came down to a mass bunch sprint of 38 riders and no major change in the overall standings. Kristen Wild (Cervelo Test Team) won the tour ahead of Trixi Worrack (Equipe Nürnberger Versicherung) and Lauren Tamayo (Team Tibco) spoilt the Cervelo one and three by finishing much higher up the bunch sprint in the final stage than Regina Bruins. Tayamo took valuable bonus seconds during the stage to give her a one second advantage over Bruins.
