Stage 9- Hausler (Cervelo Test Team) wins overall, Teutenberg rewrites history again with 18th win

Limoux 87km

Race Writeup

Ina-Yoko Teutenberg (Team Columbia Highroad Women) was triumphant again in Limoux, her 5th time winningthis stage! Teutenberg won this stage in 2000, 2003, 2006 and 2007, and emerged once again the victor in the final stage of the Tour de l'Aude.

While overall honours went to Claudia Häusler (Cervelo Test Team). Cervelo Test Team also won overall honours in the team competition.

The German started attacking the race from the 8km, just before the coast of St. Martin, obtaining support loes Gunnewijk (Team Flexpoint) and team mate Chantal Beltman. At the 26km point, a second trio, composed by Noëmie Cantele and team mate Modesta Vzeniauskaite (Bigle) and Emma Johansson (Red Sun cycling team) made the gap. The group of 6 women secured a lead up to 1minute 50 seconds to the chase group that included DSB Bank riders including Marianne Vos. It was an effort too late however with less than 10 km the advantage of the 6 leaders was 1 minute 25 seconds.

The leaders had the open sprint to the line and it was Teutenberg who showed her dominance. Cantele missed out ahead of Johansson, Gunnewijk, Vzeniauskaite and Beltman. The chase from the peloton was set by Sveltana Bubnenkova (Fennix), Martine Bras (Selle Italia Guezzi) and Nicole Cooke (Vision1) but it was all too late.
The overall result was not changed by the result of the final stage, with Claudia Häusler winning overall honours for the Tour de l'Aude. The overall time was also the  fastest in history benefiting from the first time this race has been run without the slightest drop of rain. Häusler led by 2 minute 6 secods ahead of another German, Trixi Worrack (Equipe Nurnberger) and the Netherlands Marianne Vos (DSB Bank) some 3 minutes 50 seconds behind.
