Race Writeup

Rochelle Gilmore (Aus) kept her leader's jersey in the most emphatic manner; by winning the second stage of the Tour of New Zealand.

On a new course to be included in this established event, there was a main climb at around 90km of the 122km total. The roads were familiar tothose who have ridden this Tour in previous years, but the out-and-back nature of the course was a new formula in 2009.

Australians once again dominated the results, with only Xin Lui (Giant Pro Cycling) breaking their stranglehold on the top 5.

Gilmore now leads Hosking by 8 seconds on GC, with Gilmore's team-mate, Peta Mullens, third at 16 seconds.
