Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 2009

De Goede takes second win in Het Nieuwsblad

Belgium, UCI 1.2

Write-up                                                                                                                             By Bart Hazen

Suzanne de Goede (Equipe Nürnberger) has won the fourth edition of the Omloop het Nieuwsblad (former Het Volk) on the tough uphill finish on the Charles de Kerchovelaan in Gent. De Goede won the sprint of a big break beating Noemi Cantele (Team Bigla) and Kelly Druyts (Topsport Vlaanderen).

The race over 128,2 km contained seven climbs and some famous cobblestone sections. Among the climbs the Tiegemberg, Kluisberg, Cote de Trieu, Wolvenberg and the Molenberg.

These climbs made the natural selection and after the cobblestone section of the Lange Munte, with 25 km to go, about 30 riders including strong riders as Suzanne de Goede, Noemi Cantele, Adrie Visser, Mirjam Melchers-van Poppel, Andrea Bosman, Ludivine Henrion, Monique van de Ree, Martine Bras, Loes Gunnewijk, Liesbet de Vocht, Iris Slappendel, Kelly Druyts and Trixi Worrack were left in front.

Despite several attacks in the final the group stayed together until Gent and a sprint had to decide over the victory. For Suzanne de Goede it's her second victory in this race. She also won the first edition in 2006.
