Team Specialized Designs folds due to lack of funding Seven year run comes to an end Poor economic climate and tarnished image of cycling complicate search for sponsors Team Media Release Under
various team names, the Swiss Elite Women’s Team had a very successful
program. In different team colors, there were many victories and podium
places. In the beginning years, the team started out as a National Team and
developed into a UCI-Team the last two years. The team’s most prominent
results were the Italian World Cup victory in March and the silver medal in
the Olympic Time Trial. Team Specialized Designs for Women finished the 2008
season ranked 11th in the UCI World Rankings with its best rider,
Britain, Emma Pooley, ranked 8th in the individual standings. This season, the team took another step forward its goal of becoming one of the top teams in the world. Unfortunately, the team management was not able to secure the necessary funds to continue the pursuit of this goal in the near future. The current economic situation and the tarnished image of cycling complicated the search for additional financial backers. Without the necessary funds, the team was forced to an end.
