Prologue Dijon, Individual TT, 3.2km
Ina-Yoko Teutenberg (Team Columbia) realised a season's goal in Dijon, when she won the prologue of the Route de France. The German revealed after the stage that she has been trying to win a prologue stage throughout 2008. The sprinter, who won all 4 of the flat stages in July's Giro Donne (click here to see coverage) and equalled the all-time number of stage wins in the Tour de L'Aude (click here to see coverage) powered to victory on the street course in Dijon. The mix of a few corners, a fast downhill section and a power climb with 1km to go suited the German perfectly as she beat Grace Verbeke (Lotto Belisol) by one second and pushed Edwige Pitel (Lez Carroz) in third by three seconds.
"I've been trying to win a prologue all year," said Ina-Yoko Teutenberg (Team Columbia). "I'm pretty happy because this was not actually the one I expected to win." "The course was really nice," she added. "Fast roads with not too many corners and some little hills where you really needed to keep the pressure on." "Winning the prologue takes the pressure off a bit. We can relax now going into the first stage."
