Stage 2 Granby 104.06km
Breaking away from escape companions, the winner of the World Cup last Saturday, Judith Arndt, won the second stage of the Tour of Montreal on Tuesday. In a nail-biting finish, the German went out on her own with 5km to go and managed to hold off the chasing bunch by a handful of seconds. The bunch sprint was won by Regina Schleicher (Équipe Nürnberger) from Oenone Wood (High Road). Suzanne De Goede retained the sprinters jersey, whilst Anne Samplonius (Canada) was a popular newcomer to the over-35 jersey from Tanja Hennes. Equal on time, with Arndt on GC, Schleicher will wear the yellow jersey for the time trial.
Judith Arndt - "We all raced really well together. In the end I finished only five second ahead of the bunch. It really hurt." "Now I hope I can have a good time trial tomorrow," said Arndt. Petra Rossner - (Team Director) "We raced aggressively from the start. We were in every break except one and it paid off."
