Its billed as the fastest criterium race series in the World. It certainly attracts the cream of Australian cycling and a growing number of international riders too. The Bay Series starts the season for many riders, although (very) early in the year, the Bay Series comes a week prior to the Australian National Road Championships and provides a week of speed work for riders wishing to top-off their training for the titles.

Kate Bates, the defending Champion will be leading a strong Pitcher Partners team in the 2008 Bay Series. The start list reveals sister, Natalie (Commonwealth Games RR Champion), Team High Road team-mate, Alexis Rhodes (ex-National Criterium Champion), Olivia Gollan (ex-National RR Champion) and Amanda Spratt (ex-Junior world Champion) in the line up.

Runner-up in 2007 was Belinda Goss. Her Volvo team includes reigning National Criterium Champion and fellow Tasmanian, Kirsty Broun and Canadian RR Champion, Gina Grain. Also in the team are Monique Hanley and Katie Jones.

Oenone Wood leads the Geelong Mazda team which consists of ACT riders. Chloe Hosking, Jessie Maclean, Teressa Cliff-Ryan and Rosy McCall will be aiming to help the double previous winner to regain the title.

Local competition comes from the Jayco VIS team of Emma Rickards, Helen Kelly, Peta Mullens, Jess Berry and Kat O'Shea. Rickards and Kelly are seasoned professionals in Europe and the USA (respectively), whilst Mullens has represented Australia on the road and track and Berry is a talented track rider.

Reigning Olympic Champion, Sara Carrigan rides for the Rapido Cycles team with ex-AIS representative, Jenny Macpherson. Macpherson has been riding strongly recently against the men in local criteriums.

Sky-Lee Armstrong returns to the Bay Series, she has worn the leader's jersey on a number of occasions and will be riding for NSWIS in 2008. Whilst internationals, Irishwoman, Louise Moriarty and Scot, Kate Cullen ride for the Skilled team.
