Mark Elliot appointed

Elliott has eleven years of experience within high performance sport in New Zealand from a variety of positions and is currently Performance Director for the New Zealand Winter Performance Programme where he has successfully developed a sustainable model to support the high performance outcomes for winter sports through to the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Elliott worked for Triathlon New Zealand from 1996 to 2004, where he was High Performance Director from 2000 to 2004. Under his direction, New Zealand triathletes won two Olympic medals and six world championship titles.

Elliott has also had recent high performance advisory roles for Swimming New Zealand and as part of the 2008 NZOC Beijing Planning Group.

“BikeNZ is very happy to recruit Mark to a lead position within our team”, said Rodger Thompson , BikeNZ CEO. “When one reviews Mark’s track record in performance sport, it is clear BikeNZ has recruited a quality operator that we believe has the skills and qualities to develop a World-leading high performance cycling programme”.

Elliott said, “I have been privileged to work across a number of High Performance “teams” over the last 10 years. I see this opportunity as a challenge to create a truly World Class High Performance Programme that supports cyclists, coaches and their support staff to develop and succeed on the International stage”.

“It will be an extremely challenging role working across the diverse sports of Road, Track, BMX and mountain biking within the BikeNZ group. However I have always been a person who enjoys a challenge and when you consider the cycling talent across the BikeNZ programme, the opportunities are exciting”.

Elliot begins his role on June 18.
