Day 3 Sprint Finals
Victoria
Pendleton (Great Britain) powered
her way a gold medal in two heats against Shuang Guo (China). Pendleton
moved to the front with a lap and a half to go and never looked back. Guo
could not hold the power of Pendleton as the British rider was able to ease
up on the way to the finishing line. In round two Pendleton came from behind
and Guo could not match the Briton's speed. In the Bronze medal ride, Meares (AUS) had to gather herself to compete against the Cuban Guerra Rodriguez. Meares was dominant through both rounds to secure another medal in the championships.
Victoria
Pendleton (GBR)
achieved the double. “I
felt good today, I really wanted this, I was focused and kept it simple.” Anna Meares (AUS) chatted after her medal winning ride. "That was tough I got up on the line and the suit felt tight and I was dizzy and I said to Martin 'Marv I can't see straight'," Meares said. "I was shaking and he said 'just remember she's feeling as bad as you' which was a good point. We even left the same gear on [bicycle gearing] because we didn't even have time to change it and you know what - it came down to who had a bit left in the legs and luckily it was me and now I've got two bronze medals and a gold."
