The 2006 champion, Amber Neben, opened her 2007 title defence with an emphatic win in the short, but hard, prologue time trial in Redlands itself on Thursday. The Californian who spends half of the year in Europe, riding for the Dutch Team Flexpoint squad, flew up the tough climbing course, which concludes with the riders reaching "The Summit" - the aptly name 'upscale' (as they say in LA)  housing development at the top of Sunset Drive, the name of the finishing road.

Neben finished over 30 seconds ahead of Webcor's 2006 World Championship time trial runner-up, Christine Thorburn. Third was Dotsie Bausch (Colavita Sutter), who is continuing a superb start to the year, following up from her Australian and other Californian results (Geelong Tour and Central Valley Classic).
