Alessandra D’Ettorre (Saccarelli) and Miho Oki (Menikini Gysko) made a long break in the 65km of the stage, gaining an advantage of over 1minute, 27 seconds at one point. However, they were brought back with 10 km to go. 

The long flat stage ended, as expected, with a bunch sprint. Marianne Vos (DSB Bank) was up there, despite a severe case of road rash after her prologue TT crash. However, it was Giorgia Bronzini (Team SAFI), who took the first stage in style.

Edita Puckinskaite (Nürnberger) retained the lead overall.
