Quillan - Axat
Judith Arndt protected her race lead in the best possible way - by winning the stage. Despite an attack by Luperini (Menikini) and Hausler (Nürnberger), the German made it into the break and stayed with it to the finish on this short half-stage. Worrack, Arndt, Ljungskog and Brändli stayed away until the run into Axat. The final few hundred metres were uphill and it was Arndt who was strongest on the final upwards gradient.

Axat - Quillan
The parcours for the second half stage was simply up, then down. The first part of the descent was very narrow and technical. The second part was less steep, but the roads were not very smooth - and it was wet. Attacks created breaks in the bunch. Amber Neben (Flexpoint) went over the summit alone, followed by Worrack and Hausler (both Nürnberger). Judith Arndt (T-Mobile) chased, but was unable to keep the gap down to retain her race lead, despite gaining a lot of the lost time on the descent. Amber Neben was well ahead as the race turned onto the wider road, but stopped under team direction to wait for Susanne Ljungskog. She did not have enough lead to take the overall lead. Hausler and Worrack sped past the American and continued to Quillan, unmatched. Hausler slowed a little in the final 10km, whilst Worrack, intent on her GC position as well as the stage win, raced to the finish. She celebrated her victory as the chasers came into sight behind on the final corner. Ljungskog, Brändli and Hausler sprinted to the line. Ljungskog took it and gained enough time (with bonuses) to take the race lead by 11 seconds over Worrack. Neben rolled over a few seconds later. Arndt finished soon, but not soon enough and slipped down the classification to to third, 55 seconds down on the new leader.
