Kate Nichols - a hugely deserved winner of the inaugural Amy Gillett Trophy, awarded for fighting spirit
and strength of character in the race.
Kate was one of the riders injured in the accident last year. She has come back to international competition with perhaps her best ever form (she took fourth on a stage in the Giro d'Italia a couple of weeks ago). In addition, this brave young woman returned to the Thüringen Rundfarht, faced the pressure of being here and the gaze of the media with tremendous dignity and raced to second place in the young rider competition, just 30 seconds down on the winner.
