Stage 4b

Campi Bisenzio, 50km

Race Writeup

A fast, flat stage for the riders. The weather was good, but the late evening start meant that the race finished in the gloom of dusk and the podium presentation took place in the dark.

The bunch stayed together throughout the stage, although when the inevitable acceleration occurred when the sprinters began to prepare for the finale, some dropped off the pace.

A superb backdrop for the sprint was the pedestrianised area in Campi, providing a long straight for the final 250m. As the bunch came into sight, the 'usual suspects' were already fighting for position, but there was never any doubt that Ina-Yoko Teutenberg (T-Mobile) would have the legs. She took the win ahead of Suzanne De Goede (young rider competition leader), who has been sprinting well all week.

Race leader, Nicole Brändli (Bigla) did not start the evening stage, the lead transferred to Svetlana Bubnenkova (Colnago Fenixs). Theresa Senff (Netherlands) took over the best non-Italian jersey. Point leader is Mariane Vos, also Netherlands.
