Stage 2b Altopascio - Altopascio, 67.90km
7 laps of a flattish circuit with some technical twists and turns meant that this stage was more like a criterium. The pace was high, but the German team was active in the first part of the stage. Both Hanka Kupfernagel and Angela Brodka attempted to get away off the front. Adrie Visser (AA Drink) tried too, but no rider was allowed any space off the front. The pace lifted significantly in the final 20km and the sprinters moved forward. The finale was uphill and several riders headed for the line, spread across the road. Giorgia Bronzini (Team FRW) was first over the line in the hectic sprint. Mariane Vos took over the race lead.
