Stage 1 Viareggio - Viareggio, Team Time Trial - 8km
The Dutch National team provided the best time of the evening when they went off first in the TTT. They had to wait a few hours, though to see if they had won. Each team raced 2 laps of a long, straight course, with 180' turns along the waterfront in Viareggio, a beach resort in Tuscany. The length of the course meant that only one team could be on the course at a time and so, as each finished, the next started. The competition was run-off from 16:30hrs until about 3 hours later - a long day for the officials an the Dutch team, as they waited for confirmation of the result.
