Stage 4b Schmöln, 4 laps of 18.7km circuit, 74.4km
Nicole Cooke continued her domination of the Thüringen Rundfarht on Saturday afternoon. She won the road stage which took in 4 laps of the morning's time trial stage (Click here for coverage). The stage was relatively quiet in the intense heat which has gripped the east of Germany this week. The afternoon stage did not start until 16:30hrs, but temperatures were still well in excess of 38'C, the 'magic' 100'F. An attack in the start / finish town of Schmoln with one lap to go came to nothing. There were some incidents on the road, one of which affected Amber Neben (Buitenpoort-Flexpoint), but this was not enough to put her off, she took second in the sprint behind Nicole Cooke. Overall, Theresa Senff (AA Drink) retained her grip on the mountains jersey, as did Liane Bahler (Colnago Fenixs) on the sprints jersey. The points jersey was taken over by Angela Brodka (AA Drink) and the best young rider became Marta Bastianelli (Safi), after Linda Villumsen (Buitenpoort-Flexpoint) did not start the afternoon's stage.
Nicole Cooke : "This course was custom-made for me." Liane Bahler : "With 18 points, I would hope that my grip on this competition is assured."
