Ronde van Drenthe Stage 1 Stadskannal - Assen - 7 April 2006 74km Proving that her wins in the Southern hemisphere were no fluke, Ina-Yoko Teutenberg emerged from the front of the group to take a solid sprint victory in the first stage of the Ronde van Drenthe. Run under cool, but dry conditions, the race saw several breaks go away. None really had any 'teeth' except for the duo of Linda Villumsen and Emma Rickards (in a move similar to last Sunday in Flanders. The pair managed to build a lead of around a minute and a half, but were brought back before the race reached Assen. A lap of Assen's town centre was begun with a group of riders away from the chasing bunch. As the race came back into view, the magenta jersey of Teutenberg was clearly visible in a position which is familiar already this season - at the front of the sprint. Teutenberg surged ahead to win from Suzanne de Goede and Jo Kiesanowski. The T-Mobile team has made a magnificent start to the season, but are struggling with some bad luck and ill health. Lynne Bessette is out with a dislocated shoulder, sustained late in March; Kimberly Anderson broke her collarbone last week and Kimberly Bruckner Baldwin withdrew from the first stage of this race with an illness.
