Stage 1 Formello - individual time trial, 5km
On a hot afternoon, the riders faced the timekeeper on what was basically an uphill test along the main road in this small town near Rome. Defending Champion, Nicole Brändli (Team Bigla) won the stage, took the lead in the mountains competition, the sprint competition and overall. For her, the afternoon was made warmer by virtue of the fact that she was presented with, and put on for the podium ceremonies, all the jerseys from these competitions.
