Stage 2 Kerkarde - Sibbe, 95km
It was hot and hilly for the riders on the second stage of the Eurigio Ladies Tour in the Netherlands. The bunch faced 5 laps of a circuit which included two climbs per lap. By the second lap, a group of four had escaped, one from each of the major teams in this event : Buitenpoort-Flexpoint, USA, AA Drink and Lotto Belisol. The four were away until late in the stage, with the Americans particularly active in defending the leader's jersey, held by Kristin Armstrong. In the closing kilometres, race radio constantly repeated the names "Tina Pic" and "Kori Seehafer", both Americans, so it was no surprise that they rolled in after the sprint; their job done by getting Armstrong to the line. There was a major climb, contributing to the mountains competition, within 1 km of the finish line at the entrance to the village of Sibbe. The gradient eased slightly through the village and as the leading bunch entered the finishing straight, there was a sprint. Loës Gunnewijk (Buitenpoort) just held on to beat Kate Bates (Nürnberger) to the line. Race leader, Kristin Armstrong was third and retained the race lead for another day. The young rider jersey moved to Regina Bruins (Regio Team West), An van Ris (Lotto Belisol) took the mountains jersey and Gunnewijk the points jersey.
