Kate Bates dominates Points Race, Spratt takes silver, Rhodes bronze

Cycling Australia Website

NSW celebrated another gold through Kate Bates who was unrivalled in her quest to secure back-to-back points race titles. She won five of the ten sprints and was one of six riders to gain a lap in the 100 lap 25 kilometre race. Her final points tally was 52.

"The points race was really important for me....I've had a lot of frustrations in it, for me it's really the carrot dangling on the end of the stick," said Bates who on Tuesday night was the silver medallist behind reigning World Champion Katie Mactier in the individual pursuit and on Wednesday won gold in the scratch race.

Thrilled to score the points race gold Bates was also excited by the performance of her friend and Commonwealth Games team mate, Alexis Rhodes, who continued her remarkable comeback adding a second bronze to her tally for the week amassing 31 points.

"Alex rode absolutely amazingly tonight, she's really strong, she pretty much made the race (and) without her it would have been pretty boring," said Bates who also praised teenager Amanda Spratt who secured silver with 38 points to give NSW a one-two result. "Amanda Spratt was fantastic considering she's 18."
