WomensCycling.net - Tour de L'Aude, Stage 1

Buitenpoort-Flexpoint, the team which contains defending Champion, Amber Neben was victorious on the first stage of the 2006 Tour De L'Aude. Under overcast conditions which were cool and windy, the last team to depart were the last to finish, but they were also the fastest. By virtue of crossing the finish line first of the several members of the Buitenpoort team who came to the finish together, Loës Gunnewijk will wear the yellow jersey of race leader for stage 2 on Saturday.

T-Mobile, who welcomed Lynne Bessette back to racing after her shoulder injuries, finished 18 seconds behind Buitenpoort-Flexpoint. Third was Équipe Nürnberger, containing the 2005 overall runner-up, Trixi Worrack. Nurnberg were 37 seconds behind the winners.

The jersey competitions were all awarded after Stage 1. The leaders are : Sprints, Ina-Yoko Teutenberg (T-Mobile), Mountains, Oenone Wood (Équipe Nürnberger) and Young Rider, Madeleine Sandig (Buitenpoort-Flexpoint).
